New road transport inspection agency to launch in July 2025

Starting from July 1, 2025, the Centre for Road Transport Services will be transformed into the Road Transport Inspection (INSID), a new agency tasked with ensuring safer and fairer practices in road transport across the Czech Republic.

INSID inspectors will monitor technical vehicle conditions, mandatory driver rest periods, tachograph fraud, illegal devices used to affect emissions controls, and perform roadside weigh-ins.

“Experts from the Road Transport Centre will start their work from 1 July under the new name Road Transport Inspection and inspect mainly trucks without the assistance of the police or customs administration. They will check mandatory breaks and rest periods of drivers, freight securing, weight of trucks and will also detect tachograph-related fraud,” says transport minister Martin Kupka.

Unlike the current system, Road Transport Inspection will have full authority to stop vehicles, issue fines on the spot, collect deposits, seize documents or license plates, and prevent vehicles from continuing their journey — without needing police or customs assistance.

Inspectors will wear uniforms, drive clearly marked vehicles, and use blue lights to redirect traffic for checks. Necessary legal amendments are underway, with full operational powers expected by July 2025.

Authorities hope that the change will significantly strengthen road safety and law enforcement, especially in regard to international freight operators.
