Police might not respond to certain car accidents

Starting this month, certain accidents be resolved over the phone instead of waiting for a police patrol to show up to process the scene. Police will handle reports of minor accidents, such as wildlife collisions or vehicle damage without another driver’s fault (e.g., a cracked windshield from a flying stone), more efficiently, the police spokeswomen informed.

Drivers are still required to report accidents via the emergency line. If the incident meets specific conditions (no injuries, damage below legal limits, no traffic obstruction, and no third-party property damage), it can be resolved remotely over the phone. An assigned officer will provide guidance and direct drivers to an online resource for obtaining a confirmation report for insurance purposes.

Key points for drivers:

  • Police will always process accident reports and take necessary action.
  • In certain cases, drivers won’t have to wait for police, saving time.
  • Police will notify hunting associations (in case of a hit animal) and assist with roadside services if needed.
  • Drivers must report the accident immediately from the scene to receive confirmation later.
