Police to ramp up road safety checks during Easter holiday

The Czech Police will launch a nationwide traffic safety operation during the upcoming Easter holidays, running from Friday, April 18 to Monday, April 21, 2025. The initiative is in response to the expected surge in road traffic and associated risks during the long weekend.

Police say hundreds of officers will be deployed across the country to monitor high-traffic routes, accident-prone areas, and popular holiday destinations. The police will focus on enforcing speed limits, seatbelt use, vehicle conditions, and checking for alcohol or drug use behind the wheel. Authorities also plan to emphasize prevention and road safety education.

Special attention will be paid to vulnerable road users, including motorcyclists, cyclists, and pedestrians, who typically see increased activity in the spring months. Police are encouraging motorcyclists to check the technical condition of their bikes, cyclists to ensure visibility and wear helmets, and pedestrians to use reflective elements where needed.

According to police statistics, last year’s Easter weekend saw nearly 5,000 traffic violations, over 750 reported accidents, and seven fatalities. Alcohol was a factor in 55 of the incidents.

The aim of this year’s operation is to reduce serious traffic accidents and ensure that holiday travelers reach their destinations safely.
