Firefighters were called to the town of Ohrobec in Prague-West region late Sunday morning after a car caught fire in the yard of a weekend cottage. The fire broke out just before noon and quickly consumed the vehicle, sending flames dangerously close—within four meters—of the main building, firefighters say.
Crews from Jílové and Zvole arrived promptly, backed up by a fire officer from Říčany. Using a combination of water and foam, firefighters brought the blaze under control within half an hour and managed to prevent it from spreading to the cottage.
No one was injured. The car was heavily damaged, but due to its age, the loss was estimated at only 8,000 crowns. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
