Firefighters responded Thursday afternoon to a collision between a regional train and a freight truck at a level crossing in the village of Bystrovany, near Olomouc. According to emergency services, the engineer was injured in the crash and received first aid on scene before being transferred to paramedics for further care.
Units from Olomouc Fire and Rescue, including professional and volunteer firefighters from Černovír and Chválkovice, were dispatched to the incident. Crews also managed a fuel leak and other hazardous fluids resulting from the impact.
The crash has caused a complete suspension of train traffic on the line between Olomouc main station and Velká Bystřice. Czech Railways has arranged substitute bus transport for affected passengers and is rerouting trains using replacement trainsets between select stations.
Rail authorities and emergency services remain on the scene. The cause of the collision is under investigation.
