A high-speed police chase through Prague’s Strakonická Street ended in a crash inside the Zlíchov Tunnel earlier this May. According to police, the driver had a four-year-old child in the vehicle.
The pursuit began when officers from the emergency response unit spotted a car speeding in a restricted lane. After signaling the driver to stop, the man attempted to flee, prompting a dangerous chase.
During the pursuit, the driver struck traffic signage and later crashed into the tunnel wall, causing a secondary collision with another vehicle. Despite the impact, he continued driving until his damaged car, with punctured tires, became uncontrollable. He finally crashed again shortly after exiting the tunnel and was detained at the scene.
A breathalyzer test reportedly showed a blood alcohol level over 0.2%. The child, police said, did not appear to suffer serious visible injuries.
The 27-year-old foreign national is under investigation for endangering public safety. If convicted, he faces up to eight years in prison.
