A 60-year-old man was seriously injured on Monday evening in Kynšperk nad Ohří after being struck by a detached trailer.
According to police reports, the trailer became disconnected from a car traveling through Sokolovská Street around 8:50 p.m. and veered onto the sidewalk, where it hit the pedestrian and threw him against a building.
The vehicle, an Opel with a trailer, was driven by a 64-year-old foreign national. He reportedly stopped immediately and attempted to assist the injured man. Due to the severity of the injuries, the victim was airlifted to a hospital in Pilsen.
A breath test administered to the driver returned a negative result for alcohol. Police in Sokolov have launched criminal proceedings on suspicion of negligent grievous bodily harm.
Authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution when towing trailers, citing risks linked to improper attachment and maintenance.
