Dozens fined in city centre during weekend police crackdown on street crime

Police in central Prague carried out a large-scale operation on Friday night aimed at tackling street crime, drug offences, and public disorder around key transport hubs and parks.

According to police spokesperson Jan Rybanský, the action — dubbed Centrum — involved officers from the first and second police districts. It lasted into the early hours of Saturday and focused on locations including Prague’s Main and Masaryk railway stations, Riegrovy sady, and nearby streets.

Officers detained two people wanted nationwide and found three intoxicated minors, including a 16-year-old who tested just under one per mille. The man who provided the alcohol to the minor was detained. Police say, more than twenty fines were issued for various offenses, including a case of public defecation in a parking lot.

A parallel operation in Prague 2 led to checks on over 200 people and 250 vehicles, with five individuals detained and around thirty fines imposed. Police said such coordinated actions take place regularly across the capital.
