Dozens of overloaded vans found during road inspection in Prague 8

Police in Prague were astonished after discovering that a light commercial vehicle with a declared maximum weight of 3.5 tonnes actually weighed more than eight tonnes.

The inspection took place on Povltavská Street in Prague 8, where the city’s traffic control officers carried out a targeted operation focused on overloaded delivery vans.

According to police spokesperson Richard Hrdina, officers checked dozens of vehicles within a few hours and found that 22 of them exceeded the permitted weight. The heaviest was a van driven by a foreign national, whose vehicle was more than twice the legal limit. Officers issued 14 fines totaling nearly CZK 100,000, while eight operators were reported to the administrative authority, where penalties can reach up to CZK 500,000.

Police said that such checks are ongoing and will continue in the coming weeks.
