Parts of Prague 1, 2 and 4 were left without electricity late Friday morning due to a malfunction in one of the city’s substations, according to Prague Energy Distribution (PRE). The outage affected several central areas, including Nové Město, Nusle, Vinohrady and Žižkov.
PRE said it was investigating the cause and expected to restore power by around 1:30 p.m.
Tram service in parts of central Prague was reportedly disrupted by the power outage, with stationary trams seen at Náměstí Míru after the electricity supply failed.
Prague firefighters reported several calls related to people stuck in elevators but could not confirm whether all incidents were directly linked to the outage. “We have three cases in the city centre, but we are also responding to locations where power is already restored,” said fire service spokesperson Miroslav Řezáč, quoted by Novinky.cz.
