Police are searching for a young woman who suddenly stepped onto a pedestrian crossing in Prague’s Košíře district, forcing a city bus to brake sharply. The incident, which happened in early September afternoon at the intersection of Na Popelce and Starokošířská streets, left several passengers injured.
According to police, the teenager reportedly entered the crossing on a red light, causing the driver to make an emergency stop to avoid a collision. The sudden braking threw several passengers to the floor.
A 77-year-old woman sustained serious injuries. The elderly passenger was among several people who fell inside the bus when the driver made an emergency stop. According to the police press release, she spent nearly a week in hospital recovering from her injuries. Police confirmed that several other passengers were also hurt in the incident, though no further details about their condition were released.
Traffic police continue to investigate and are appealing for help identifying the girl, who wore light-colored clothing and a pink backpack. Anyone who recognizes her is urged to call 158.
The case is being investigated as a suspected act of negligent grievous bodily harm, a crime that carries a potential prison sentence of up to four years.
