Detectives in Prague have charged two men after uncovering an illegal scrapyard in the city’s Lipence district, where several stolen vehicles were dismantled and sold for parts, police reported on Thursday.

The investigation began late last year after a luxury car was stolen in Prague 4. Detectives from the 8th Department of the Prague I police unit faced difficulties because the theft was reported with a significant delay, leaving few clues. Their search eventually led them to a property in Lipence, where only the engine and gearbox of the missing car remained. Closer inspection revealed traces linking the site to three additional stolen vehicles, with total damages exceeding one million Czech crowns.

Two 46-year-old men have been charged with money laundering. If convicted, they face up to six years in prison. Investigators continue to search for those responsible for the car thefts.
