Municipal officers in Prague 4 detained a 14-year-old boy just a day before Christmas Eve, an incident that authorities say reinforces the city’s strict stance on public vandalism.

Patrol officers reportedly spotted the minor at the Dolina bus stop, where he was using a marker to tag the shelter’s glass panel. The incident has prompted law enforcement to clarify that neither the artistic technique nor the scale of the damage provides a legal defense.
The Municipal Police emphasized that the existing condition of a property is irrelevant to the charge. Authorities noted that adding a tag to a surface—whether it is a pristine wall or a bus stop already covered in graffiti—remains a violation of the law.
“It is completely immaterial whether it is the first or the tenth creation at a given location,” the department stated regarding their enforcement protocols.
In accordance with standard procedure, the teenager was handed over to the Police of the Czech Republic.
City officials continue to urge those interested in street art to use designated legal surfaces. Locations approved for graffiti are publicly listed on the websites of Prague’s individual municipal districts.
