Police hunt Russian and Ukrainian speaking suspect after assault in Prague’s Florenc

Prague criminal investigators are appealing to the public for help identifying a man suspected of a severe assault at the Florenc metro station. Authorities have highlighted a specific detail to help identify the aggressor: he was recorded speaking a mix of Russian and Ukrainian just before the attack.

The violent incident occurred on the evening of December 5, around 6:30 p.m., near the metro entrance in Prague 8. According to police, what began as a routine request for a cigarette descended into a brief verbal argument and ended when the suspect punched the victim in the face.

The blow caused significant damage. The victim suffered a double fracture of the lower jaw, an injury requiring urgent surgery and the insertion of permanent titanium plates.

The victim managed to film the suspect on his mobile phone prior to the physical altercation. Investigators hope the footage, coupled with the distinctive language profile, will lead to an arrest.

Detectives are investigating the case as grievous bodily harm, which carries a maximum sentence of ten years in prison. Police are urging anyone who recognizes the man or witnessed the dispute to contact the emergency line 158.
