Police seek suspect in million-crown Rolex theft in Prague city center

Prague police have turned to the public for help identifying a man accused of stealing a luxury watch worth more than one million CZK during a targeted street scuffle last March.

Prague police have released surveillance footage of a man suspected of stealing a luxury watch worth over one million crowns.

The incident unfolded in the capital’s Old Town district, a high-traffic area popular with nightlife and tourists. According to police spokesperson Richard Hrdina, the suspect allegedly spent the evening inside a music club on V Kolkovně street, where he repeatedly attempted to engage the victim in conversation.

The situation escalated once the two men exited the venue. Authorities say the suspect initiated a brief physical altercation, causing both men to fall to the ground. During the struggle, the thief reportedly managed to strip a Rolex watch from the victim’s wrist before fleeing into the surrounding side streets.

While investigators were able to track the suspect’s movements via CCTV, he remains at large nearly a year later. Footage captured the man leaving the vicinity in a vehicle belonging to a ride-sharing or transport company shortly after the robbery.

“Despite using all operational search means, detectives have been unable to locate the individual,” Hrdina stated on Wednesday.

The police have released photos of the suspect and are asking anyone who recognizes him to come forward. The man is being investigated on suspicion of theft, a charge that carries a potential sentence of up to eight years in prison given the high value of the stolen property.
