Detectives in Prague are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying two men linked to a violent robbery that began in the city center and ended with a physical assault in the Prosek district. The incident, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, Jan. 10, has prompted a criminal investigation into theft, though authorities say more serious charges may follow.

According to Police Major Eva Kropáčová, the encounter began at the Náměstí Republiky bus stop in Prague 1. A 20-year-old man was exiting a night bus when he was approached by two unidentified individuals. After a brief conversation, one of the men allegedly snatched a container of tobacco from the victim’s hand before the pair boarded another bus that had just pulled into the stop.
The victim followed the suspects onto the vehicle, attempting to persuade them to return his property. The situation escalated once the group disembarked at the Madlina stop in Prague 9.
Investigators state that a verbal dispute turned physical when one of the suspects allegedly struck the victim multiple times in the head and body, causing him to collapse. In a confusing turn of events, the two men reportedly helped the victim back to his feet, only to use that moment to attempt to steal his waist bag containing personal belongings. When the victim resisted, he was allegedly assaulted a second time before the suspects fled the scene.
The 2nd General Crime Department of Prague III has released CCTV footage of the two men. While the current investigation is being handled as a theft, Kropáčová noted that the classification of the crime could be upgraded as the inquiry progresses.
Anyone who recognizes the men in the footage or has information regarding their whereabouts is urged to contact the police via the 158 emergency line.
