Prague police search for cyclist after hit-and-run leaves senior injured

Authorities in Prague are appealing to the public for help identifying a cyclist involved in a collision that left an 83-year-old woman with serious injuries just days before Christmas.

The incident took place on Průběžná Street near Gutovka Park. At approximately 12:40 p.m., the woman was walking along the sidewalk with her granddaughter when a cyclist traveling in the same direction struck her from behind. The impact caused the woman to fall, resulting in a broken hip.

While the cyclist initially stopped to ask if the woman was hurt, he did not stay to assist. According to police reports, when the victim asked for his identification to resolve the accident, the man mounted his bike and fled the scene.

Detectives are investigating the case as negligent heavy bodily harm, an offense that carries a maximum sentence of two years in prison.

Police are looking for a white male who was wearing a scarf over his mouth at the time of the collision. Investigators hope the suspect’s bicycle will be key to identifying him. It is described as an old model with peeling white paint that appeared to have been applied by hand.

Anyone who recognizes the description of the cyclist or the distinctive bicycle is urged to contact the police on the emergency line 158.
