Rail traffic on a major line leading out of Prague was brought to a standstill on Sunday afternoon following a fatal accident involving a pedestrian. A woman was struck and killed by a passenger train near the Barrandov Bridge, prompting a significant emergency response and the evacuation of more than a hundred passengers.

The incident occurred around 1:25 p.m. in the Hlubočepy district. According to initial reports, the train was traveling from Prague’s Main Station toward Beroun when it hit a woman on the tracks near Zbraslavská street.
Emergency medical teams, along with police and firefighters, arrived at the scene shortly after the collision. Despite the rapid response, the victim could not be saved. Karel Kirs, a spokesman for the city’s rescue service, confirmed that the woman suffered fatal injuries and the attending doctor was forced to pronounce her dead on site.
While the immediate aftermath was being handled, criminal investigators from Prague II began documenting the scene. Police spokeswoman Eva Kropáčová stated that officers are currently investigating the specific circumstances that led the woman to be on the tracks.
The accident stopped all traffic on the busy corridor connecting Prague and Plzeň, specifically shutting down the section between Smíchov and Radotín.
Firefighters from both the city and the Railway Administration were deployed to evacuate the stranded passengers. Approximately 130 people were assisted off the train. Depending on their location, passengers were either guided to nearby bus stops or transferred to a relief train that returned them to the Smíchov station.
Czech Railways introduced replacement bus services to mitigate the delay for other travelers. Operations on the line were partially restored on a single track shortly after 3:00 p.m.
