Two injured in collision between tram and truck in Prague

Emergency crews responded to a serious collision between a tram and a commercial truck in Prague’s Hlubočepy district on Monday morning. The crash, which occurred shortly before 10:15 a.m. on Gollové Street, left both drivers injured and halted public transit on a key section of the Barrandov line.

According to the Prague Emergency Medical Service, paramedics treated the tram driver and the driver of the truck at the scene. Both men sustained head injuries but were stable and not in life-threatening condition when they were transported to the hospital.

The impact caused significant damage to the front of the tram and pushed the truck onto the tracks, leading to a partial derailment. Police spokesperson Richard Hrdina stated that officers are currently investigating the cause of the accident and coordinating with fire and rescue units to clear the wreckage.

The collision forced the Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) to suspend tram service between Sídliště Barrandov and Slivenec. While there was a brief gap in coverage, transit officials introduced replacement bus service around 10:50 a.m. by reinforcing the existing 104 bus line.

Recovery operations are expected to take time due to the need for heavy equipment to remove the damaged truck and re-rail the tram. The transport company estimates that regular service on the line will resume around 12:30 p.m.
