A man traveling from Prague to Istanbul was removed from his flight after joking that he was a terrorist during a security check at Prague Airport, according to the Foreign Police Service.
The incident occurred at Terminal 1 after security staff reportedly found that the man was carrying a power bank that exceeded the permitted limits for air transport. Authorities said he reacted angrily and claimed to be a terrorist.
The man later said he had only been joking. However, the statement triggered security procedures, and officers from the airport’s Foreign Police unit attended the scene. Bomb disposal specialists also searched the man and his luggage but found nothing suspicious.
The airline was informed and decided not to allow the passenger to board because of the security concern, police said. The man was traveling with his two minor children, and the family’s planned trip to Istanbul ended before departure.
Police said the man and his children left the airport accompanied by officers. Authorities warned that references to terrorism, bombs, explosives or weapons can trigger immediate security measures, regardless of whether they are intended as jokes.
