Two men have been charged with robbery after allegedly threatening and stealing money from a young passenger on a Prague bus. Police are now looking for witnesses who may have seen the incident or the suspects.
The robbery happened on Thursday, July 23, at around 1:30 p.m. on bus line 181 near the Hejtmanská stop in Prague 9. According to police, two suspects approached the victim, either standing nearby or sitting next to him, and claimed they were collecting money from people as “payroll workers.”
The suspects allegedly threatened the young passenger with violence and stole several hundred Czech crowns before leaving the bus. The victim immediately reported the incident and provided investigators with a detailed description of both men.
Criminal investigators from the robbery unit in Prague’s third district, together with officers from the rapid response patrol unit, located and detained both suspects on Černý Most within eight hours of the reported crime.
The suspects, aged 19 and 21, are being prosecuted for robbery and were taken into custody following a request from investigators. If convicted, they could face up to 10 years in prison. Police said one of the men has two previous criminal records, while the other has three.
Authorities released information about the case while seeking witnesses. People who appear in police footage or have any information about the incident are asked to contact police on emergency line 158.
