Nearly 50 people were injured after two passenger buses collided near the village of Oleksovice, south of Brno, on Saturday morning, according to Czech emergency services and public broadcaster ČT.

The crash happened at around 9:30 a.m. on the main road linking Brno and Znojmo. Police said a bus travelling from Brno struck another bus that was entering the main road from a side road. Both drivers tested negative for alcohol. Czech Television reported the collision appeared to have been caused by a failure to give way.
Emergency medical services treated 47 people at the scene. Spokesperson Michaela Bothová said seven people suffered moderate to serious injuries, 25 sustained minor injuries, and 15 passengers were examined before being allowed to continue with advice to seek medical attention if needed. Among those with minor injuries was a child, who was given a stuffed toy by paramedics for psychological support.

The response involved 13 ambulance crews, a large-capacity ambulance, a rescue helicopter and additional crews called in from off duty. The injured were taken to hospitals in Brno and Znojmo, according to emergency services.
The road remained closed for about five hours while emergency crews worked at the scene and damaged vehicles were removed. Traffic was later allowed through under police-controlled alternating flow, with restrictions expected to remain in place until at least 4 p.m.
