Three people have been charged after investigators linked them to a series of alleged thefts involving vehicles, trailers, construction materials, and excavators worth millions of Czech crowns, according to Prague police.
Police said detectives from Prague’s District I criminal investigation unit began investigating the case earlier this year after several trailer thefts were reported in Prague 5 and Prague 6. During the investigation, officers reportedly recovered the stolen trailers along with several vehicles listed as stolen in official records. They later identified and arrested two men, aged 40 and 33, and a 26-year-old woman.
According to police, the investigation connected the trio to additional thefts, including construction materials and two excavators with a combined value exceeding CZK 2 million. Officers also alleged that one attempted vehicle theft ended unsuccessfully when a stolen vehicle being transported on a trailer came loose, crashed onto a street, and damaged nearly ten parked cars before the suspects fled the scene.
Police said background checks showed that the two men had previous convictions for theft-related offences.
The suspects have been charged with theft and criminal damage. Police said the total damage caused exceeded CZK 3 million, meaning they could face up to eight years in prison if convicted.
